Most people save the best for last, but I was just so excited to share I'm sharing my very best friend (since the 5th grade!!), Amanda Vaughn-Redmon, with you guys for my first ever Fahion Friday Feature! She's a graduate from SCAD in Savannah, worked for several years as a designer for Urban Outfitters and Urban Renewal, before opening her own boutique, <a href="http://www.facebook.com/formationavr">Formation</a>, in Kernersville, NC. You can find her own designs and remade vintage items there or at <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/FORMATIONavr">Formation on etsy</a>. She has also recently joined the iPhone and Instagram world! You can find her and her cute pups at amandavaughredmon on IG. Amanda has always had a unique way of styling herself and I recently moved away from Winston-Salem where she resides, so I was dying to see how she's been styling herself since she is an expectant mama. Of course she makes me wish I was pregnant again JUST so I can try out these styles. :)</span><br />

How would you describe your style?</span></b></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">My style is heavily influenced by shape and color, or lack of color (in most cases). I have always dressed in what I feel naturally expresses the creative and defiant part of me, if that makes sense. In other words, I wear what I want, and I do not worry so much about what is currently trending. Styling myself has always been the most favorite part of my day. Maybe I am old fashioned, but I believe in dressing for an occasion...even if there isn't one to attend necessarily. And I don't mean that I go out looking like I am dressed for the ball, but just that I took time to put something together.</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />

Who/What is your biggest style influence?</span></b></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Wow, there are so many style/fashion icons to me out there, and I am not referring to the most recent...like Lady Gaga (although I appreciate that her style is art). One of my all time favorite designers is Vivienne Westwood. I love her spunk and confidence...and she is so punk rock. At the ripe old age of 70, she still has it going on.</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">3. I mix and match those with my other baubles daily. My boots are the other piece of the ever changing puzzle. Most currently, I cannot dress without my new Ksubi "Dusty boots", which you will most likely see in my pictures. Lastly my harem pant collection has been growing for at least 6 years now. I definitely could not go on without the quick comfort of my harem pants!</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">4. I never go for anything flat or uninteresting.</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">5. How do you piece your outfits together?</span></b></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Well, it all starts with me staring into my wardrobe, until that one key piece pops out to me. It is a feeling I guess. And then the layering begins!</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">6. Where are your favorite places to shop?</span></b></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">I love shopping in Europe, of course, but my favorite shopping is either in Stockholm or Copenhagen. You find the coolest little shops tucked away on all the little by-streets. The market in London has always been a favorite as well. I found a mini treasure chest full of old keys a few years ago...and some really fantastic handmade metal rings.</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">7. If you could give one bit of style advice, what would it be?</span></b></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">My advice, in the most simplest of words, is to just find a style that feels like you, and do not follow or mimic what people are wearing around you, because that will change from day to day.</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">8. I am very plain Jane with that...basic foundation, a bit of blush and mascara. Nothing crazy. As far as brands I swear on, well...I'm not addicted to anything really.</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />

She was a mess, but a very intriguing mess! Who else would mix swimwear with fur? Well other than the runway...which too have been influenced by "Little Edie", I'm guessing.</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />

That is to keep up with my ever-spinning craft-centered mind. A new idea will surface at any moment now! My favorite show growing up...wait for it...The Monkees! The third random fact about me, which sort of contradicts the first one is that I am somewhat OCD (self diagnosed of course) when it comes to my work space. I cannot begin to work when my studio or materials are scattered.</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />

<br />
Hello! Happy Thanksgiving to all of my lovely readers! We are spending the day enjoying family time and storing energy for some all night shopping! Woot! We'd just like to share some of the things we are thankful for this year.<br />
<br />
Mama- I'm thankful for my family. Each and every one of them. I have an amazing, supportive family (blood relation and in-laws). We are all so different but we all fit together perfectly. I'm especially thankful to my parents for allowing us to live with them this year while we save up and get some of our debt paid down. Though The Dude can get a little wild every now and then, his love and personality make up for it ten fold. Having our beautiful baby girl has made our family even more full of love and I can't remember what life was like without her. But I'm especially thankful for my husband, Brian. My life has been so full of love and laughter since I met him and I appreciate all that he does for us. He is truly my best friend and such an amazing father. I'm also thankful for my friends. I'm lucky to have been blessed with some pretty fantastic friends all over the country! We have some great friends that we miss bunches in Atlanta and California and we sure do miss our friends in Winston-Salem. We hope to get back up to West Virginia to see our friends there and hopefully meet some of our IG friends in the near future.<br />
<br />
Dada: I, as well, am thankful for my family, both near and far. The ones I don't get to see too often in Georgia and Alabama and wherever else they may be scattered about. Maybe we don't see eye to eye on some things, but above all of that, we are family and whether we realize it or not, we all have an enormous impact on one another's lives. I am truly thankful for my in-laws, for accepting this random weird dude into their family to marry their baby girl and help raise their grandson. You've accepted me with open arms for years, and have now <strike>accepted</strike> <b>welcomed</b> us into your home. I'm thankful for Hayden, for allowing me to step in and help raise you and for treating me as if I were your real father. When I met you and your mom, I didn't get an instruction manual on how to raise a kid, but I'm certain you got one on how to raise a dad. You know all the right buttons to push, both good and bad. And the good far outweigh the bad. To my beautiful wife who never ceases to amaze me: you've twice given me the opportunity to be a dad. With the dude (though you did most of the hard work early on), and with the most perfect little darling girl. Just like you said, I can't remember what life was like before her, I can't imagine life without her. You are everything I ever hoped for in a wife; a soulmate, a best friend. I'm thankful for countless friends across the country, that, though I don't see you too often, or even talk to you that often, you're still in my thoughts daily. From different cities within GA, TN, AL, FL, NC, SC, WV, CA and plenty of others, I cherish each and every one of you, and can't wait for the next time I get to see all of you. And finally, I'm thankful, that despite the lack of employment across our country, I have been given an opportunity to work and provide for my family. Elizabeth carried the weight for too long, and now I am able to pay that favor back so that she can stay home with the kids and not stress about going to work everyday. True, sometimes I have stressful days/weeks, and sometimes I grumble about my job, but I love it, and am glad my hard work doesn't go unrecognized.<br />
<br />
The Dude: Is thankful for his friends and family. But mostly he is thankful for all of his toys and electronics. *Oh the simple mind of a child* :P<br />
<br />
Magnolia: She told me she is thankful for Mama, Dada, Brother and her toys. She's also thankful for boobies and milk. :)<br />

<br />
Monday we went in for Magnolia's 9 month checkup. I was thinking she was up for another round of immunizations, but then I remembered she's not due again until 12 months. Yay! I did decide to go ahead and get her the flu vaccine, only because The Dude is exposed to so many germs and I don't want him bringing anything home to her. This was our first time for her at our new pediatrician's office and they do things a little differently. At our old office we went back, the nurse asked some basic questions, had us strip her down and change her diaper, they weighed her and then went back to the room so they could measure her head circumference and length. At the new office they do all of this at a special little changing station that weighs, and has a length measuring thingamajigger. I stripped her down while they asked questions, then the NURSE took her diaper off (I thought that was kind of weird), they weighed, measured, took her temp rectally and then put one of THEIR diapers on. Isn't that weird? I mean, it was just a Pampers diaper, but when I went to give her one of Magnolia's diapers she said "No that's ok. We use ours." Um. ok.<br />
<br />
Then we went back to the room and her pediatrician came in immediately. My mom knows her from working on Pediatrics at the hospital, which is why we chose her. She's seen The Dude a couple of times and now Magnolia once and I really like her. We'll call her Dr. R. She went over all of the basics. I told her about Magnolia not sleeping through the night and how we thought maybe she had a bit of reflux and if maybe that was what woke her up at night. Dr. R agreed that she had heard her reflux a few times while we were there, but that she disn't seem to be unhappy when she did or in any sort of pain, so she recommended not medicating. She told us that newer research shows that those antacids may do more harm than good. They work by eliminating the acids in our stomach which actually HELP keep out bad bacteria. In turn there is a higher incidence of stomach infections. Makes sense to me. I went with Dr. R's advice and we will try not to medicate. She checked her vitals and everything was looking good.<br />
<br />
She then pulled her diaper down to check out her hoo hoo. Happens at every appt. Nothing new. But then I got a "huh". She then went straight into telling me that Magnolia had developed a labial adhesion. Dr. R immediately told me what it was which I appreciate. I've worked in the medical field. I've heard of this condition before, but it's nice to have a doc that doesn't drag things out and gets straight to an explanation for a concerned parent. It's exactly what it sounds like. Her labia minora had become stuck together. This basically "closed" her vagina. There is a real basic informational page on the <a href="http://www.babycenter.com/0_labial-adhesion_12464.bc">BabyCenter</a> website. It tells us that this happens in about 2 percent of little girls up to age 6 and that it can be a result of baby's hormones from mama tapering off around 3 months. Babies don't have the estrogen that adults have to make the natural lubricants, so there is nothing to keep the area open. It can also be related to irritation from diaper changes or maybe a scented detergent. Most of the time, they don't need any sort of treatment. We were told absolutely do NOT try to pull it apart (duh) as it can be painful for the littlest and can just re-adhere. If it doesn't heal on it's own and gets worse it can block the urethra and cause urine to pool in the vagina which could cause infection and leaking urine. She recommended in Magnolia's case to let her call in an estrogen cream. It's to be applied directly to the affected area with light pressure twice a day. She also told me not to be surprised if Magnolia develops little breast! Eeep! I sure hope not. We've used it since Monday night and it appears to be fixed already. It's hard to tell on a wiggly little baby. I'll try to get a better look tonight after her bath and hopefully we can quit using it already.<br />
<br />
We talked about how I had started putting flax seed in Magnolia's food and that she was on board with that as long as I wasn't giving her whiskey as well. Sheesh! She's not even a year yet! We know better than to give whiskey in the first year. :) She didn't have many recommendations for finger foods to try, so I'll be researching that some more. She's had a few pieces of our food here and there. Noodles, green beans, mashed potatoes, peas, toast. I just don't want her to only eat Cheerios and puffs all the time. Do you have any finger food suggestions?<br />
<br />
The nurse came in at the end of the visit to give Magnolia her flu shot. She was quick and efficient. Mags was shocked and immediately started screaming, but I scooped her up, snuggled her real tight and nursed and she was happy as a clam! She seemed a little cranky later in the day. I don't know if it was from her shot, lack of a good nap, teething or everything combined. She has to have a flu booster shot in 4 weeks. I guess children under 9 that get their flu shot for the first time have to get a booster. :(<br />
<br />
I may be back tonight or tomorrow with another post, but if not I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I have a lovely special lady lined up for a Fashion Friday Feature this week. Can't wait to share with you!<br />

We had a fun weekend round these parts. Saturday was spent thrifting with my mom and the kids. I scored some adorable hand embroidered dolls for $3.50. Not sure how old they are, but they were super cute so I grabbed them to go on a shelf in Magnolia's room until she's old enough to play with them. They are even embroidered on the back!<br />

</div><div>Initially I went back to get the first high chair. But it was more than twice the price of the second and the second was the style I had been looking for in the first place because I wanted to paint it. So I went with the second, and I'm really excited for it to be my next project! While we were there I found an awesome Fisher Price record player. Marketed for tweens, but I knew the hubs would love it. We are thinking we'll pass it on to The Dude in the next couple of years so he can start his own record collection.<br />

</div><div>My mom and I worked on a doll idea I'm considering selling on etsy. The front is an awake face and the back is a sleeping face. It's modeled after some vintage dolls we found, but it needs some tweaking. I'd like babies to be able to actually play with them and Magnolia promptly ripped some of our prototype's hair out. :/ So I'm thinking that may need to be embroidered as well. I may have a few Instagram mamas interested in some boy dolls and I totally know how I'd like to do them. Now to just do it!</div><div><br />

She'll have a veggie for lunch and then has a meat and veggie for dinner or one of her fancy little organic meals in a pouch. haha. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Her top right tooth is right underneath the gums (and has been for about a week), so that will make tooth number 3 any day now. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">She still isn't crawling up on her hands and knees but as of today she does this adorable little wormy, scoot, crawl thing that can get her across the room pretty quick. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">She finally, definitely said Dada...a few times today. Magnolia, B and I were laying in bed this morning and she peeked around my shoulder looked right at him and said excitedly, "Dadaaa!" He is smitten more than ever. She's also started saying "Daw" (sounds like dog without the g) and looking at Porkchop. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">See what I mean?! She's learning something new every day it seems! Tomorrow she has to go get her 9 month shots. :( I feel strongly that immunizations are important for children, but I sure do hate taking that sweet girl in for them and doubly hate how she looks at me like "Why are you letting them do this to meeee?!?!"</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The Dude helped me out with Mag's 9 month photo shoot today, so I'll leave you with some of my favorites. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Today I'm sharing a little tutorial for a painted holiday candle holder. I have seen a few different painted mason jars on Pinterest (come <a href="http://pinterest.com/elizasaurus_rex/">follow me</a>) and wanted to try it myself. I have some Mason jars that I will be using this technique on, but I wanted to test it out first. So without further ado, I present my Jarred Holiday Candle!<br />
<br />
Materials Needed:<br />
- Jar - you can use any sort of glass jar. A mason jar would be great. I happened to have this cherry jar on hand.<br />
- Spray paint - any color. I wanted mine gold so I can use it year after year no matter what my Xmas decor may be that year. You want to make sure you use a spray paint that will adhere to glass.<br />
- Adhesive Vinyl Letters - I found mine in the hardware section at Wal-Mart. They have a couple of different sizes. Be careful which ones you purchase. I saw some that were black letters on a white background. You DON'T want those! You want just the plain letters.<br />
- Tea light Candle - I just purchased these from the clearance Halloween section at Wal-Mart. 75% off = .25 cents baby! Whoop! I may have bought 4 packs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgESsit_xnxegYHd1m_WPecjARBKSLMEpHWkUHuuuFdHweHv7YDISh16_L0zUhv6TphgCllF8_gTQt5FZPtpPvNClzUdv75Y0U4xq0D3rl9ZOYF462fkXxrA2a0EOu3SessIb4KAQV9rscx/s1600/DSC_0521.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgESsit_xnxegYHd1m_WPecjARBKSLMEpHWkUHuuuFdHweHv7YDISh16_L0zUhv6TphgCllF8_gTQt5FZPtpPvNClzUdv75Y0U4xq0D3rl9ZOYF462fkXxrA2a0EOu3SessIb4KAQV9rscx/s320/DSC_0521.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">That's it! First you'll need to make sure your jar is clean and dry. Choose your saying for your jar. I chose the word JOY. Try to choose a short word so that you can see the whole word from the front. Obviously you can fit larger words on larger jars. Adhere your letter vinyl letters to your jar. This is where I wish that I had had a larger jar. My letter curved over the top edge and didn't want to lay perfectly. The sticker buckled and you don't want that. Try to get your stickers as flat as possible and get all of the air bubbles out. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWcKh0XispIh-X3Mnd4AyJ51qUey0jJdHIi5SiUFJ5LujVbjo04jzuXzA5WLq4adlEvSS3g6mtco1yHOKEFbO58JIp7FDI42aL9oVdtNhyphenhyphen6wVJsGmySkQP6Oe_IEcyfubefF_ipRIOCnog/s1600/DSC_0532.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWcKh0XispIh-X3Mnd4AyJ51qUey0jJdHIi5SiUFJ5LujVbjo04jzuXzA5WLq4adlEvSS3g6mtco1yHOKEFbO58JIp7FDI42aL9oVdtNhyphenhyphen6wVJsGmySkQP6Oe_IEcyfubefF_ipRIOCnog/s320/DSC_0532.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Carry your jar and your spray paint outside or into your garage. Remember this is spray paint and has the potential to get everywhere. Lay down a piece of cardboard or a drop cloth. From about 8-10 inches away, spray your jar in quick bursts. Try not to hold your can in the same area too long or you will get drips. This is glass so it drips a lot faster than wood. I was able to cover my jar in one coat, but if it's not covering as well, wait about 15 minutes and do a second or third coat. When your happy with how it looks wait an hour to dry thoroughly and bring your jar in!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoMSQCvuTsS-x00RNRHfKCCEC3c0Npds3vjNRIzYnCXQegq05JsyZmsKYgWvIXEFOaM6JpVjR_hIZYbJDrU2JnICSF3_vm-pYlN6k_EiZRxwPwkdOfdek7UvpCENO3YDkNIAyY5aZMqLgh/s1600/DSC_0536.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoMSQCvuTsS-x00RNRHfKCCEC3c0Npds3vjNRIzYnCXQegq05JsyZmsKYgWvIXEFOaM6JpVjR_hIZYbJDrU2JnICSF3_vm-pYlN6k_EiZRxwPwkdOfdek7UvpCENO3YDkNIAyY5aZMqLgh/s320/DSC_0536.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now you're ready to peel your letters off! GO SLOW! You don't want to peel off any of your paint. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx6I1vi5lmrmp-4kAvw1PBtNBVnitZpkVtVDDCaAIU2JKVzhd1dMeuSSmtEKESAMwn-6DIFUrd6jYRUFBF9CV_2pRDJ4BmSmOSoPEIqm-GH8t5DLsvpaxk6TLZ4d4h2vjQSI_5Ph5fbdPp/s1600/DSC_0539.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx6I1vi5lmrmp-4kAvw1PBtNBVnitZpkVtVDDCaAIU2JKVzhd1dMeuSSmtEKESAMwn-6DIFUrd6jYRUFBF9CV_2pRDJ4BmSmOSoPEIqm-GH8t5DLsvpaxk6TLZ4d4h2vjQSI_5Ph5fbdPp/s320/DSC_0539.JPG" width="182" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now this is where I had some trouble. I thought I was done at this point. I place my tea light candle in and when I lit it I decided I didn't like how well you could see the candle. I wanted more of a "glow". I happened to have another type of metallic spray paint. Same brand, metallic, but silver and a matte paint with a different type of spray nozzle. I wanted to use this paint to lightly spray the inside of the jar where the letters are. (no need to spray the whole inside) I didn't think much of it and thought the contrast of color might be neat. The paint came out way faster and in a more concentrated stream. I got drips with my first spray. :( I didn't want to go any further with that, so I switched back to the glossy gold. It made kind of a swirly effect which seemed ok...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgux723lx-pfZyFnPue6s-xuXfTNawUPXvKBFzzdIYSUNIUIDTacVANFTajxCxqTSXOjaZW70DIIEA0aSwJ2t8ewiG5yVeofzqnTyJVhol6_LzBlpeNzdilxoTPVBg1jcypdeML6aH-lUxN/s1600/DSC_0541.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgux723lx-pfZyFnPue6s-xuXfTNawUPXvKBFzzdIYSUNIUIDTacVANFTajxCxqTSXOjaZW70DIIEA0aSwJ2t8ewiG5yVeofzqnTyJVhol6_LzBlpeNzdilxoTPVBg1jcypdeML6aH-lUxN/s320/DSC_0541.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">...until I lit it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx-CZq0l2XePYGfxqBfQ-hMlCyEwvnyakAkmpaGvH5pZJvtVH3R413ln3KLYjQNa5XzFMklx8lpswvnqVnhdSCOQrXyr0WD5m_F07-wzGFRvehCLNx5iGAPBSYhrzXmbH5D-_Hvi_YyLoi/s1600/DSC_0543.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx-CZq0l2XePYGfxqBfQ-hMlCyEwvnyakAkmpaGvH5pZJvtVH3R413ln3KLYjQNa5XzFMklx8lpswvnqVnhdSCOQrXyr0WD5m_F07-wzGFRvehCLNx5iGAPBSYhrzXmbH5D-_Hvi_YyLoi/s320/DSC_0543.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I'm such a sucker for all of the expensive, bright toys that light up and make horrible noises. I feel like since they draw a child's attention, they must be great. No, they are just bright and loud so naturally a baby will be drawn to them. But what if we just didn't have them to start with? I would love to switch over to only buying vintage, wood and eco friendly toys for Magnolia. At least for the first few years. I have seen all kinds of cute toys and ideas for for things to make her myself. <a href="http://etsy.com/">etsy.com</a> is a great resource for all of these toy ideas. Here are a few things I've found that I'm loving from etsy.</div><br />

</div><div>Happy Friday! <3</div>Elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15378738818091786907noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4302186432445527242.post-88276545750977165032011-11-17T22:28:00.000-05:002011-11-17T22:28:02.654-05:00What is This Blog All About?I'm having a hard time figuring out where to focus this blog.<br />
<br />
In the past week my Magnolia seems to be growing and learning by leaps and bounds which makes me want to document everything! But I would still like to include my little crafty projects. So I guess it will continue to be a mash up of whatever the heck I feel like rambling about.<br />
<br />
Magnolia: She's soooo close to crawling. Tonight I stacked her little stacking cups up high and kept letting her knock them down. She thought it was hilarious and kept getting so excited when I stacked them. I moved them just out of arms reach and she got up on all fours and rocked and rocked. She wanted to move forward so badly, but her body just wasn't working with her. I gave in and moved it closer so she could reach and feel like all of her hard work paid off. But now I see that she will be crawling very soon. She will be 9 months in 3 days and still isn't crawling. I get worried sometimes when I hear of my friend's little girl that is a few days shy of 10 months and is already walking!! But Magnolia is my baby. I <i>know</i> she's not behind and I know all babies develop at different times. I'm enjoying these last few days/weeks of her being immobile. I say immobile, but she still seems to be able to get around the living room. Scooting, rolling, twisting, turning. The child does not stop!<br />
<br />
Sunday, the 13th, we had The Dude's birthday party at the YMCA pool. He had a great time and I got to meet Lydia, his crush from his classroom. It was mid afternoon, so we just had juice/water and cake. I snapped some pics and will try to get them up this weekend. The hubs and I happened to catch Mags clapping while we were at the pool. It was really sweet and special that we actually got to catch her do this for the first time together. I know B feels like he misses a lot from working so much, so I'm glad he got to see that. Tuesday, the 15th we went to Hayden's school PTA meeting where the 2-3rd graders were doing little performances. We caught Magnolia clapping a few times along with the audience so it's looking like she's getting pretty good at it. We say "Yaaaaayyyyy" and she'll clap...most of the time.<br />
<br />
It also seems that she's really becoming aware of who's who this week. Especially with Dada (Brian) and Papa (my dad). I'll ask her where they are and she seems to look in their direction. She's been babbling a lot this week and the majority of it is dadadadadadada....dadadada. I contribute this to my talking to her all the time about him. I'm pretty sure that's her first word. But until we are positive I'm not quite ready to document that one. :)<br />
<br />
We got some new lil fluffy additions to our family today, but maybe I'll save them for their very own post. :)<br />
<br />
I have to be disciplined and blog these things. I told B I wanted a journal this week so I can log our days. I don't want to forget a thing! But if I can just get better about blogging, and as long as you guys/gals don't mind reading it maybe the interwebs will do?<br />
<br />

We had a couple of houseguests, Magnolia got her 4 month shots yesterday and we've been doing a lot of nursing and snuggling. So here it is...a few days late.<br />
<br />
To me father's day means several different things. I of course think of my own amazing father. He is and has always been such a supportive, giving, loving and forgiving Dad. He's put up with all of his children's crap and still loves, loves, loves. At almost 75 years old, he is constantly thinking of other people and how to help them. He has become very active in his local Salvation Army and even hops in his truck to go help out at shelters after hurricanes, tornados and flooding. He's still quite the pool shark and just an all around awesome guy!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbie2GLhq-YxdNjSxQ9ULk38J3WLZ5gxFpI5CrKQZHH_KxnNYuvWI9kUJklT-OnL8LYJfJzO5IBTy0mnpv7cxyMZ_Fu7rHtj5PsJNpJFXnzAZWjl06QQskMXV95yaamuaiYJDXtepGWrIk/s1600/DSC01286.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbie2GLhq-YxdNjSxQ9ULk38J3WLZ5gxFpI5CrKQZHH_KxnNYuvWI9kUJklT-OnL8LYJfJzO5IBTy0mnpv7cxyMZ_Fu7rHtj5PsJNpJFXnzAZWjl06QQskMXV95yaamuaiYJDXtepGWrIk/s320/DSC01286.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Of course on father's day I think of my amazing husband. My perfectly beautiful, loving husband. He, not surprisingly has a lot of the same qualities as my dad. Obviously the packaging is a little different, but I do see my dad in some of his actions. He remembers the small stuff. Just the other night he ran out to the grocery store for a few things we needed and came home with the movie Friday (which is my ghetto guilty pleasure) and a DVD for The Dude that has a compilation of bad kid movies. I say bad because they are the ones that have bad acting and talking dogs and things of that sort. But The Dude LOVES them. He thought to bring in The Dude's plant from the porch last night before a storm blew through. He does the grocery shopping with my very unorganized shopping lists and coupons. He does at least half of the housework. Sometimes more depending on what kind of day I had with the kids. I'm trying to get better at that. I try to think of all the things little housewives did in the 50's and 60's before they had quickie meals and all of the baby entertainment that we have these days. They got everything done and had dinner on the table by 5. Aaaand there I go. Totally different blog post. But what I'm getting at is this. Some of you may or may not know that B is not Hayden's biological dad. But his is, in all ways, his dad. He does everything a dad is supposed to do and then some. He was great with him from day 1 when we started dating back in 2007. They were fast friends and Hayden was really excited to have a male figure around all day every day. We got out and did more things. Hiking trails, climbing rocks in the middle of rivers, riding bikes and skateboards. Things that I, as a pretty girlie girl, was neglecting to do with him. Now they still ride bikes and scooters, they play catch in the backyard, they go on Cub Scout camping trips, they shoot bb guns in the backyard. Such dude stuff!<br />
<br />
Now I get to see him be the father of our baby girl. He is so sweet and tender with her. I know she will grow up and know who to go to to get just what she wants. :) He always offers to get up with her at night. Even knowing darn well he can't breastfeed her. He is great at juggling being the sweet daddy to his girl and the manly (but sweet) dad to The Dude. My heart explodes with love for this man and I appreciate all that he does for our family. He is supportive of me and all of my ideas and goals and he is supportive of The Dude and the things he wants to do and achieve. He reads every one of my blog posts, so Hunny, I love you to the moon and back!<br />

I either forget to blog, or am too tired to blog, or when I do remember I feel like there is so much to tell I can't get it all in and I get all overwhelmed and aggghhhh!! I want this to be fun and not feel stressed out that I missed a day or two...or a week. :/ But I want it to be worth it to my lovely followers. So I will try try try to be more regular. I need some benefiber for blogging.<br />
<br />
So I will just do a lil quickie overview via pics and captions of our last couple of weeks which were super busy!!<br />
<br />
First and foremost...<b>I officially opened my etsy store! </b>I've already made several sales, and I'm having so much fun with it! I'm making and selling teething/nursing necklaces. Or they can just be worn as statement necklaces. They are made from 100% cotton fabric and all natural wooden beads. Great for Mamas and Papas that choose not to use meds to treat teething! I'm adding more and more prints each day! Spread the word! :)<br />

This week has been kind of hectic, and Miss Magnolia has been a real fussbutt. I'm still not sure what's going on with her. I'm thinking it's a dairy sensitivity. I've cut down on my dairy intake, but I keep having slip-ups. This should be at the front of my brain at all times, but I keep catching myself downing a glass of milk or chomping away on a cheese stick. Anybody that has known me a long time knows that I have an unhealthy obsession with milk. Yes, that's possible. I could go through a gallon in 2 days. And don't even get me started on chocolate milk! So in order to see if she really has a sensitivity, I need to cut it out entirely. So I'm posting this hoping that putting all my bizz out in the streets will help me remember.<br />

My last post I mentioned that we were going to be picking up our new (to us) Saab. We did that on Wednesday. We picked it up from a friend's house where it had been parked for a few months. The battery was dead so we had to jump start it. B and my friend's husband may or may not have had to google how to jump a car...<br />

After we sent the hubs off to work in our new car, the kids and I went over to a friend's house for an evening swim. It was perfect! The water was just cool enough to feel refreshing, but not too cool for Lil Miss. The Dude had a blast splashing everybody and Magnolia actually fell asleep in the pool! I was holding her facing out with just her bottom half in the pool and swaying her back and forth and she was out. Kind of adorable. I snapped a photo of her in her swimsuit for the first time, but it was with my phone and kind of dim so this is what I got.<br />

Thursday was the hunsband's 31st birthday! I'm married to an old man! The Dude was at school all day, so Maggie and I took it easy at home. I put this adorable little outfit on her.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I just about died from the cute! It's a 6 month outfit and the little leggings were digging into her belly and the ruffly top had some very itchy stitching on the inside, so that lasted just about long enough to snap a few pics and then she was done. I don't think she's a big 3 month old. I would be concerned about the health of a 6 month old that fit into that outfit...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">For B's birthday dinner we had a group of about 20 friends meet up at our favorite Mexican joint. I decided to forgo a camera because Magnolia was having an off evening and I wanted as little distractions as possible. I had The Dude bring his camera and he ended up with <b>A LOT</b> of pictures of our friend's little girl, Sierra. She's 2 years older than him and he's in leeeerrrrvvvvv! He's already asked if I was ok with her being my daughter in law. I love her and her parents, so I'm all for it...in about 30 years... The rest of the pics were blurry or of extreme close-ups.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO5vJQvP0CXsEMV23fN-QYa8V3WnzttenbPLVYZ92koLvQC0Nfqhbl0s479tAuJr8xX2MIpcsRLMMI8bWGQ4yvX60AI7J5pj2uhzr8iN0rlk0y4iP-Qs5CVuZHyAnsRrQ9s4ucT-ULglrB/s1600/100_0407.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO5vJQvP0CXsEMV23fN-QYa8V3WnzttenbPLVYZ92koLvQC0Nfqhbl0s479tAuJr8xX2MIpcsRLMMI8bWGQ4yvX60AI7J5pj2uhzr8iN0rlk0y4iP-Qs5CVuZHyAnsRrQ9s4ucT-ULglrB/s320/100_0407.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

</tbody></table>Today I drug my slack butt out of bed and actually bathed (yes!) and put on real clothes (yes!) and dressed the kids (yes!). I've been thinking of setting up a booth at our local <a href="http://kvilleindieflea.com/">Indie Market</a> and selling some of my crafty goodies. So, today I slathered the kids with sunblock and headed out. It was more than disappointing. There were maybe 8 tents and it was mostly old lady junk. Not even cute old lady junk, which I have a passion for. Just junk. There were maybe 10-15 other people browsing. I'm not sure it would be worth my time. :/ The "Indie" name was a little misleading. I hear there are a few other Indie Markets around, so I may look into those. This one was just close to home and only $20 for booth rent. I did put this vintage top on Magnolia and again I was overcome with the cute. </div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

Womp Womp. B had to work. Our backup junk car has gone kaput on us so the kids and I were stuck at home. It was hot as all get out though, so one of those little plastic pools would have been fantastic.<br />
<br />
Remember this little <a href="http://www.pussycatvintage.net/2011/05/one-year-anniversary-gigantic-giveaway.html">giveaway</a> over at <a href="http://www.pussycatvintage.net/">Pussycat Vintage</a> I mentioned last week? I won!!! Well, I won 2nd place...but I won!! I never win anything! I'm thinking we should be trying the lottery this week. So far I know that I have this lil lovely coming from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/benandi">Benandi</a>. How stinkin cute is that!?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDsBav85wZaBePqKWp_i_l29VmIw-a5YgsiiaBZEUQrDlU94T2Y-R_xm7Ntd_kCf38Va8gkyJaT4UhsIjQyPWbUoax1NBWyY4YArIkottdOLqW811VzYUb3cAn74nY-J_xxlqPb4PtMWm-/s400/Picnik+collageben.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDsBav85wZaBePqKWp_i_l29VmIw-a5YgsiiaBZEUQrDlU94T2Y-R_xm7Ntd_kCf38Va8gkyJaT4UhsIjQyPWbUoax1NBWyY4YArIkottdOLqW811VzYUb3cAn74nY-J_xxlqPb4PtMWm-/s320/Picnik+collageben.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm still not sure what else I have coming as I think I'm getting 2 or 3 more things from the giveaway...I think... haha.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Like I said, our car died on us this weekend. Actually we <b>think</b> it just needs a starter. Unfortunately our car was made within a 3 year span that Nissan decided to practically tuck the starter away, never to be seen again. So our estimate for repair was about $450 with most of that being labor costs just to get to the starter. Boo. Hiss. I don't even think this car is worth that in the first place. Well, it just so happens, one of our close friends is getting rid of one of these lil gems:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRdhhF7OsliXZrUfdF7_bRDgVzZqFqSDR2XkWqMHIeYqq9W-gWOXw" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRdhhF7OsliXZrUfdF7_bRDgVzZqFqSDR2XkWqMHIeYqq9W-gWOXw" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It's a 1995 Saab 900s! Cute huh? Much cuter than our 1988 Tony Stanza (Nissan) that we have sitting in our driveway. We are paying just a little bit more than the repairs would cost on the old car and it's 7 years newer and way cuter! And it has heat and air! B is stoked on that! So yeah we are having to spend money and we don't have much to spare since I'm doing the stay at home thing, but I think it came at a good time when our friend was trying to sell her car for cheeeaaaap. So we are going to have a new (to us) car tomorrow! YAY!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The dude gets out of school in 2 weeks and I think we will be spending some time at my folk's house who live close to the beach. Double YAY! B works 6-7 days a week, but I'm hoping he'll get to get away here and there over the next few months. I hate that he has to work so much, but I really appreciate it and LOVE that I get to stay home with our sweet girl and boy this summer. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Little Miss Magnolia has been super fussy the past few days. She's not wanting to nurse and just arches her back and screams. She's never had a bottle so I don't think it has anything to do with that type of thing. She has also started scratching her head and face and pulling her ear and hair on her left side, so I'm worried she has an ear infection. Hopefully I can get the car stuff squared away tomorrow and get her over to the pediatrician to see what's going on. I'm also trying to break her of the habit of sleeping in this thing. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/public/bg13JSTmTOtxJoQfMzyLi1QEzu44dWwSoMYV8OxVLlL6Vh8I5za1szuyLYOjp2srGB2dDTuQ25h-eTp-CB6qi-cAJtoNVNKJnBxPhxE8VU3XN-VQSHtKMJrW1zkkWSoDenqDjj6zZFQ5ZRzaKQlz5rnYJV_vSqySHvesNt8eaCcjaq4Ha1s9Ew" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/public/bg13JSTmTOtxJoQfMzyLi1QEzu44dWwSoMYV8OxVLlL6Vh8I5za1szuyLYOjp2srGB2dDTuQ25h-eTp-CB6qi-cAJtoNVNKJnBxPhxE8VU3XN-VQSHtKMJrW1zkkWSoDenqDjj6zZFQ5ZRzaKQlz5rnYJV_vSqySHvesNt8eaCcjaq4Ha1s9Ew" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It's the Fisher Price Rock n Play Sleeper, which has been awesome. She usually sleeps like a champ in it, but we'd like to get her back in the habit of sleeping flat on her back. So needless to say, we will probably have a very restless night tonight and the next...and the next.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Tomorrow: New car and plastic pool. I'm on it!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

When Magnolia is down for her naps, I'm glued to my screen. I love getting lost in the blogesphere. I click on <a href="http://pussycatvintage.net/">something interesting</a>, which links to a <a href="http://www.pussycatvintage.net/2011/05/one-year-anniversary-gigantic-giveaway.html">giveaway</a>, which links to an <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/JuniperHome?ref=pr_shop_more">awesome etsy sho</a>p that I haven't seen yet. Then I'm left wondering how the heck did I end up looking at this <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/66429025/cutesy-kitschy-ceramic-poodle-figurine">amazing ceramic poodle</a> that I absolutely NEED!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://ny-image0.etsy.com/il_570xN.210291612.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://ny-image0.etsy.com/il_570xN.210291612.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So yes, I LOVE blogging. And I LOVE that dang poodle. So does that count as 1 or 2 things?..</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">1. Blogging</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br />

If you don't already have it(where the hell have you been for the last 6 months) and own an iPhone, go ahead and head over to your app store and buy it. All the cool kids are doing it. I downloaded it in December maybe and was instantly addicted. It's a photo sharing community that you can either snap new photos in or upload from your already saved images. You have a dozen or so "filters" you can add to the photo to make it all artsy fartsy. Much like most other networking sites, you can "Follow" people. You can comment on their photos or simply "Like" them. It's simple to use, yet technical enough that my parents haven't figured it out yet. Find me. Follow me. elizasaurus_rex. This is another awesome app. It is a way to order photos straight from your iPhone. It's super affordable, they print on high quality paper, it's damn easy to use and as an added Instagrammy bonus, you can get images printed on a 4"x4" square! Perfect for those Instagram photos. I went ahead and placed an order to try them out. I placed my order on 5.21.11. The app only allows you to upload 20 images for each order. But you can make as many orders as you want. I chose a few of my favs, and before placing my order I scoured the web for a discount code. (duh) I'm sure there are several out there, but I came across the code "148Apps" and got 25% off my order bringing it down to $5.39 shipped. This $5.39 brought me much happiness (hap-penis) today when I found this pretty lil envelope in my mailbox!</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

The only thing I didn't take into consideration is what to do with them after I've received them. Sure I can find a photo album, but then they are tucked away so nobody can enjoy them. Any crafty ideas for how to display them? One thing I will add is for you to try to steer clear of your low light, grainy images. I printed a few just because I loved the content of the photos.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

<div><br />
</div><div>I was inspired today by my Instagram friend Brooke. She wrote this blog. <a href="http://puttogetherattheseams.blogspot.com/2011/05/nothing-fits.html">http://puttogetherattheseams.blogspot.com/2011/05/nothing-fits.html</a>. She too recently gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Wolfie, and she too is struggling with feeling "pretty" in her post-partum body. But she got up off her butt and went shopping. Her trip wasn't fruitful, but hey at least she went out into those dreaded dressing rooms and tried some clothes on. Her outlook is that she'll go out and buy some pretty clothes now, and then go out and buy some <b><i>more</i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"> pretty clothes when she loses her pregnancy weight. The best of both worlds! Why should I sit around in my jammies all day when I could find a few cute dresses or some comfy jeans that fit </span><i>now. </i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;">I feel so embarrassed when The Hun comes home from work and I either haven't showered at all(ew) or I've showered and at least changed into some clean jammies. Of course he says what he's supposed to and says that he doesn't care and that I'm beautiful and all that good stuff, but I want to </span><i>feel </i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;">beautiful...or at least cute. </span></b>You may recall just a few days ago in my <a href="http://magnoliasgraces.blogspot.com/2011/05/friday-errands.html">Fashion Friday?</a> post I was saying how I was not quite comfortable with my weight. I only have about 10 lbs to lose before I get to my pre-preg weight but I'd like to lose another 10-15 on top of that. I am somewhat embarrassed to say that I have to squeeeeze into a size 12 or 13. I normally don't tell my size. I am 5'11", so that hides my weight a little bit. People say, "Whaaaa? You can't be 180 lbs!" Yes...yes, I am. :( BUT, I won't be forever. Recently my mom purchased <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Jillian-Michaels-30-Day-Shred/dp/B00127RAJY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306259677&sr=8-1">Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred DVD</a> for me for mother's day. I purchased a cute floral romper from H&M in a size too small and declared it to be my "inspiration to lose weight".</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeF661Y5qBcyY_MM0VA1gpG30hP0K359eOsURQPqWl8JmlJVcreybdfYATiDKJj_-Yy7eR2zjZmMvHBwU8vcv5utce8wIZt0AypRu1HLYOheSLiWi2WMJmDw7tqlosBskDn9v6NMUbZlyK/s1600/IMG_1134.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeF661Y5qBcyY_MM0VA1gpG30hP0K359eOsURQPqWl8JmlJVcreybdfYATiDKJj_-Yy7eR2zjZmMvHBwU8vcv5utce8wIZt0AypRu1HLYOheSLiWi2WMJmDw7tqlosBskDn9v6NMUbZlyK/s320/IMG_1134.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Well, I huffed and puffed my way through day 1 of the DVD workout and when I woke up on day 2 I was in excruciating pain. Every muscle in my body hurt. I had to hold onto the counter in the bathroom to lower myself onto the toilet. I'm not complaining! To me, this is <b><i>GOOD</i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"> pain! Ladies, (gentlemen?) this DVD has GOT to work. By day 6 I could feel myself getting stronger. The workout was getting easier. My endurance was improving. I was considering moving up to stage 2 of the workout. I tried on my romper and the legs seemed just a little bit looser. Maybe my imagination, but hey, it was encouraging. But there's one problem. I'm exclusively breastfeeding Magnolia and my milk was suffering. I drink a ridiculous amount of water. I drank a bottle during my workout and another right after I work out. Plus I drink several more throughout the day. But she was fussing at the breast and I felt "empty". So I gave the workout up for now. I will just have to get myself out for walks, which is difficult during summer in the south. But I </span><i>NEED</i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"> to do it. I will also work on portion control. If these things don't help, so be it. I'll just be a little fluffy until I'm done nursing and then I will lose the weight. To me, nursing is a lot more important than fitting into that floral romper. </span></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"><br />
</span></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;">So my latest project was to go through my closet and get rid of all of the things that are waaay too small. Or the things that I didn't wear even when I could fit into them. Or the gold Nike dunks that I never really wear. I can't afford to go out shopping, but I'll gather all of these things up and take them to the nearest <a href="http://www.uptowncheapskate.com/">Uptown Cheapskate</a>. This is one of those types of consignment stores where you can bring in your old clothes to sell or trade. If you sell them they give you a certain percentage of what they will sell the clothes for. If you trade them for something else in the store you get a higher percentage. I prefer <a href="http://www.buffaloexchange.com/index.php">Buffalo Exchange</a> but the nearest one is an hour away, which just won't do with a screaming 3 month old. This will be my first experience with Uptown Cheapskate, so we'll see how it goes. I will focus on finding clothes that </span><i>FIT</i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;">. I will<i> <b>NOT</b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: normal;"> focus on the number inside the collar or inside the waistband. I'm </span><b>NOT </b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: normal;">fat! My body is simply reserving what it needs to provide the best nutrition for my daughter. This will be my shopping mantra for the next year!</span></i></span></b></div><div><br />

Either, there are no true believers or that dude was full of it.<br />
<br />
Magnolia turned 3 months on Friday. It's crazy how fast our days are flying by. I love my days with her, but I hate that she seems to be growing at an alarming rate. I don't remember the dude growing so fast. She's finally getting the hang of tummy time and not just face planting and screaming. I mean, it still eventually leads to that, but we get a few minutes of her looking around first.<br />

</div><br />
Just in the past few days she has really started to figure out that those things she's been nomming on the past month actually open up and hold things. Currently her favorite thing to hold is her shirt, which makes a quick entry into her mouth and becomes soaked in drool. She is discovering her "voice" more and more everyday. It sounds like, "Aaaaooooooooaiaiaiaieeeeeeeee". She also does this T-rex growling thing. Of course it promptly comes to a halt as soon as I get out the video camera. *cough* need new iPhone with video capabilities *cough* She's not a fan of going out....anywhere... She hates her carseat and can't fall asleep while we are out, which makes for a very grumpy baby and mama. She sleeps pretty well at night. I can get a good 5-7 hour stretch before she wakes up to nurse and then back to sleep for another 2-3 hours. Of course I'm never ready for bed when she is, so I still seem to get a lot less sleep. Plus, I'm still waking every once in a while to watch her breathe, feel her cheeks to see if she's too warm or too cool, sniff her diaper to make sure she's not sleeping in poo. Sometimes I even wake up just to look at her. I know this is something that will never stop, as I still do it with The Dude, who is 8. I love going in his room before we retire for the night. I pull his blankets up around his chin, scoot him over if he seems too close to the edge of the bed, pull his pillow and stuffed animals away from his face (because I still have that whole SIDS, suffocation fear with him) and just watch him sleep. That's when all of the arguments of the day seem to fade away; not wanting to get ready for school, not wanting to do homework, not wanting to clean his room, not wanting to eat his veggies, not wanting to get out of the bathtub, not wanting to pee <b><i>inside</i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"> the toilet, not agreeing that the sky is, in fact blue. My sleeping 8 year old looks exactly the same as he did when he was my sleeping 2 year old, minus the thumb sucking. </span></b><br />
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"><br />
</span></b><br />
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;">Today I found out about another old friend who has just had a baby girl. She is having some health problems and they are just now starting what is sure to be a long journey. You can read their story here : <a href="http://our-natalie.blogspot.com/">http://our-natalie.blogspot.com/</a>. I'll be praying for their sweet girl. This news comes just weeks after another friend that I met on Instagram, but that the hunsband actually knows "in real life" had her baby boy, Wolfie, and had to make the hardest decision of her life and let her baby pass because of unforeseeable health issues. This is her blog: <a href="http://puttogetherattheseams.blogspot.com/">http://puttogetherattheseams.blogspot.com</a>. 2 examples of 2 amazingly strong families. I'd like to think that I'm that strong, but in all actuality, if I were faced with what they have gone through, I feel certain that I would just shrivel up and die. That seems so selfish to type out. I feel so selfish when I complain about being tired from being up in the night with Maggie, or having to mate all of those teeny tiny socks, or having to get up in the middle of the night and strip our bed and myself and Maggie because she threw up or pooped on everything or being frustrated because Maggie won't take a nap and I just want to take a shower. These "annoying" moments are moments that some families would do anything for. I have close family friends that aren't able to have children. How is that possible? They are quite possibly the BEST candidates for children. They would be amazing parents, yet they will always just be Aunt and Uncle unless they ever decide to adopt. I try to remember these families when The Dude is throwing a temper tantrum or when Magnolia is screaming at the top of her lungs for no apparent reason. I'm so lucky that God has given me 2 perfect and healthy children. I've had 2 miracle babies in my life, because I feel, with all that </span><i>could</i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"> go wrong, it truly is a miracle when nothing does go wrong.</span></b><br />
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;"><br />
</span></b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2ECmLDW3AD8YLRCMsIFa0VH1flAxkJOBsf46yHzDd48urI-tyNPPQ6WsIWGhFkR-d16kTvhrGlAyBVMQJjp40PxbHwRPXQS7DMPKJmcS9Dtot6rn7vCBeVBpu4M5UjDUafKZxwUDOhVhE/s1600/DSC_0003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2ECmLDW3AD8YLRCMsIFa0VH1flAxkJOBsf46yHzDd48urI-tyNPPQ6WsIWGhFkR-d16kTvhrGlAyBVMQJjp40PxbHwRPXQS7DMPKJmcS9Dtot6rn7vCBeVBpu4M5UjDUafKZxwUDOhVhE/s320/DSC_0003.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Yesterday I finally packed up Magnolia's newborn diapers (about 8 packs). I guess she's not getting any smaller. :/ I have a few preggo friends so maybe there will be enough to go around. I've also cleaned out her drawer of things she's grown out of. Tear. But, I've decided that I can't get rid of any of them. I lost all of The Dude's baby clothes in a house fire a couple of years ago and I'm so sad that I can't go back and ooo and aah over them. I pulled down some of her 3-6 month clothes and while I'm sad she's growing so fast, I'm excited that she's one size closer to her 12 month "boyfriend" jeans we bought her. Last night we went to a friend's surprise birthday gathering, which consisted of tailgating in an ice rink parking lot, ice skating and a hockey game after hours. Magnolia fussed pretty much the entire time, but I was able to capture my dudes having some fun. Neither of them can ice skate, so there was lots of LOLing. But they came out with minor scrapes and bruises.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdLk9b-zgLThw0jikwjCF_n5yDk2tN21kRZ6sNxLycBuJ1gMlWyWpHR8yqcE4E8zspsMxjIfNOaPfeUX8qy4U14qeylPUgJKwF-fk1yNwOBGo77PNqofLsYJmw1CEx7yGcfTqEDdHBO-c3/s1600/IMG_1207.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdLk9b-zgLThw0jikwjCF_n5yDk2tN21kRZ6sNxLycBuJ1gMlWyWpHR8yqcE4E8zspsMxjIfNOaPfeUX8qy4U14qeylPUgJKwF-fk1yNwOBGo77PNqofLsYJmw1CEx7yGcfTqEDdHBO-c3/s320/IMG_1207.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I eventually would like to have a theme for each day of the week. This one may stick, but for now it's just for fun. It's currently 77 degrees outside, which seems like a perfect temp to be outside. But, alas, I have about 10 more pounds of pregnancy weight to come off and probably another 10-15 after that until I'm happy. Where I'm getting with this is that none of my summer clothes fit me and while I'd love to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe, a. I'm hoping my smaller wardrobe will encourage me to lose weight and b. I'm doing the stay at home mom thing and finances just won't allow it. So for now, I will just "window shop" online and wish I had this super cute outfit so I could comfortably go play outside.</div></span><br />

But I guess this is a good one to start with. Let me know if anything is unclear or if you have ideas to make the project better. You won't hurt my feelings. :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
You'll need:<br />
Wooden embroidery hoops. Like <a href="http://www.joann.com:80/joann/search/searchall.jsp?keyword=embroidery%20hoop&catPath=All%20Products////Product%20Home////UserSearch1=embroidery%20hoop////AttribSelect=Price='Under%20$5'&_requestid=640968">these</a><br />
Various complimentary fabric remnants<br />
Scissors<br />
Fabric marker or a regular ink pen will do<br />
Sewing machine or needle and thread if you want to add a little oomph to your hoops<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ4jtIWL2A6XdhttfbijXkx2ccnrjxqXTQa3yPOy0RcgA2RGMc1T8h6ZE-a8SDzG6Cg9EQ4TtBALB2EHmPj1gtpbBnA5GgTp3TpV8Id5lGr5TDo0kZso7V8LxV-GIIyLPdRJ7TFLrvriUL/s1600/DSC_0008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ4jtIWL2A6XdhttfbijXkx2ccnrjxqXTQa3yPOy0RcgA2RGMc1T8h6ZE-a8SDzG6Cg9EQ4TtBALB2EHmPj1gtpbBnA5GgTp3TpV8Id5lGr5TDo0kZso7V8LxV-GIIyLPdRJ7TFLrvriUL/s320/DSC_0008.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Choose your fabric and hoops. I upcycled a couple of old bedsheets I thrifted a couple of weeks ago and happened to have some complimentary remnants in my stash. I purchased hoops from Joann's, but I think I paid too much. The hoops I got are the 18"x 28" oval (paid 5.99) and 2 14" circles (paid 3.99). Still pretty cheap for their purpose. But I'm sure you can find some cheaper if you search around online or hit up some yard sales or your granny's stash.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I wish I had made a template for the tree because I'm pretty stoked on how it turned out. You can add ric-rac, ribbon, felt. You will want to sew your pieces on <b><i>before </i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;">you put your fabric on the hoop. You can't tell, but I used a super bright yellow thread and sewed about a 1/4" in on all of the pieces. Then I went back and pulled at the edges to fray them out a little. </span></b>The good thing about this is it's super cheap and easy. If you hate it, take it apart and start fresh. If you change your decor, take it apart and start fresh. No biggie. Be sure to let me know if you try it and post pics!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I saw a post on Instagram (totally awesome app for iPhones) from a fellow mama who had just received hers, so I did some research. Even if you aren't a supporter of our president, it's a pretty awesome thing to add to your baby book, box o memories...whatever.<br />
<br />

<br />
Oh and I haven't forgotten that I said I would show how to make the wall art today. I just have a doctors appointment. Sheesh! Simmer down. So how about that...you'll get 2 blogs in 1 day!Elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15378738818091786907noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4302186432445527242.post-67664477677801508112011-05-18T23:48:00.004-04:002011-05-20T14:37:56.610-04:00I'm Doing This!See...I'm doing it! If you have found yourself here, then you may know me and you may know that I get all gung ho about something and then forget about it a few weeks later. Blogging <i>may</i> be one of those things. I hope not. I need a "creative outlet". I get all of these ideas for things I want to make, places I want to go, things I want to accomplish but I've never had a place to keep all of these thoughts in a pretty little package. Enter blogging. I tried a tumblr account and that ended up being a bunch of reposts of pretty pictures and <i>other </i>peoples ideas and dreams. I never did the LiveJournal thing, and I feel like FB will fade away eventually and all of my ideas will be lost into the interweb abyss. I'm hoping this blog will encourage me to express my own ideas...and maybe share a few ideas that I LOVE from some other folks.<br />
<br />
What to expect: I'm kind of all over the place with my thought processes. I have a dozen projects I want to complete, but I get sidetracked with my next BIG<b> </b>idea. So you can probably expect me to be all over the place. Try to keep up, please. I'm a doting mother and I'm obsessed with my kids, 8 year old Hayden, a.k.a. The Dude and 3 month old, Magnolia Grace, this blog's namesake. I'm also pretty over the moon for my super hot hunsband, Brian. He will most likely be referred to as The Hun, Hun, my hunny, the hunsband or just plain B. I never call him Brian. It just seems weird. But he's my soulmate and best friend. As cliche as that sounds, I really mean it. I think we are the only 2 people in this world that could "get" each other. We have a chihuahua named Porkchop. The only way I know how to spell that is because B taught me to remember it as Chi-hoo-uh-hoo-uh. Totally works. Try it.<br />
<br />
I was a "hippie" in high school and wore the ridiculous patchwork dresses that went along with it. I taught myself to sew because my mother certainly wasn't going to make those ugly dresses for me. So there's that. My mom did teach me how to knit and crochet. I took photography courses in high school and college. I pretend I know what I'm doing with my Nikon D40. I think I just get lucky and accidentally end up with awesome shots. I also like to collect old cameras.<br />
<br />
I've recently picked up couponing. I'm kind of obsessed. There were no coupons in our newspaper this week and I felt cold and empty inside. I'll try to share some of the super sweet deals I come across. I live in NC, so they may only be southern deals. My absolute fav couponing website is <a href="http://www.southernsavers.com/">www.southernsavers.com</a>. She's amazing! She matches up weekly grocery and drugstore circulars to current coupons and even links you to printable coupons if they can be found on the web. LOVE! I've been doing this just a few weeks and have already stocked B up on about a years worth of body wash. Totally Free!! Ooooo, and free toothpaste, and toothbrushes and mustard. Who doesn't love mustard?<br />
<br />
So that's as far as my mind seems to be wandering tonight. Welcome and enjoy. The blog design is still under construction so I apologize if it's not up to bloggy par. :) Tomorrow I'll show you how I made these:<br />
